Hello! In the midst of a the swirl of book events there is one I am especially looking forward to, because it is a chance to talk in depth with one of the wisest and kindest people I know. On Sunday evening (19th May, 7pm BST) I’ll be in conversation with
as part of his Sunday Sessions. If you’re a paid subscriber you will be able to see the joining details for the call at the bottom of this email. If you’re not, why not upgrade? Even if you only do so for a month it is still a cheap event ticket. Paid subscribers make this strange writing space possible for me and I so appreciate their support.
Other things!
This week I was part of a panel event at UnHerd on whether we are seeing a Christian revival. Spoiler: I think no, but the spiritual landscape is changing rapidly and that is one direction it could go in. If that does happen, whether we see a to a renewed church humbled and steadied and growing in neighbour-love, or an exclusive, anxious and tribal one remains an open question. Wherever you come from on all this, I’d love to hear your perspectives.
I was in Bishop Auckland to chair an event with former the Young British Artist’s “Mr Nasty” Mat Collishaw as part of the Faith Museum’s championing of contemporary art. His piece Eidolon is astonishing, and not nasty at all. Holy, is the word I would use. There is no recording available yet (though we hope eventually to be able to rescue some sub par audio) but this is just my encouragement, if you are ever in the North East of the England (and it’s a great place to holiday) to go check it out.
